Comic Book Current Events 4/1/10

Well, look who’s back. We’re not making any promises, but there may be some new content showing up soon. Until then, John and I just wanted to do a little roundup of all the cool comic-based stuff coming to screens both big and small in the near future.

There are a few movie trailers floating around now that deserve some attention. First off is the movie based on Mark Millar’s Kick-Ass which debuts on April 16.

Then we come to what looks to be, quite possibly, the single greatest comic book-based movie EVER. With a clever mix of word balloons, videogame cinematography and panel-like framing, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (based on Bryan O’Malley’s book and directed by Edgar Wright) should impress a lot of people.

If what they’ve been able to do with both Mad Men and Breaking Bad translates even half as well, then I’m already jonesing for AMC’s take on Robert Kirkman’s Walking Dead. The mood and pacing of the books, coupled with the almost realistic plot, really kept me up at night when I first read them.  The series has been greenlit for at least six episodes and is being produced by such heavyweights as Frank Darabont and Gale Anne Hurd.

The other movie trailer I’m excited for is based on the work of Andy Diggle and Jock. Of course, I’m talking about The Losers, starring Idris Elba (Stringer Bell from The Wire ) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen‘s Comedian). The story revolves around a group of special ops soldiers who are left for dead by the government, so they seek some bad-ass revenge.

And you may have noticed that Chris “Human Torch” Evans was also in that movie. Well, I suppose TWO comic book movies weren’t enough for him, because he’s just been cast as Captain America  as well!

With all this crazy action and shockingly good cinema, it’s going to be a good year for comic book fans. Hopefully.

So they really did cast Chris Evans as Cap. What is with him playing the BLOND heroes?
